Due to the fact that PROFIBUS fieldbus is a type of interface that is frequently plugged and unplugged with electricity, CM3141-02-03 inevitably generates electrostatic discharge (ESD) or surge currents. Therefore, if protective measures are not taken, it is extremely easy to break down the relevant pins due to electrostatic discharge surges, and even damage the internal core circuit of the chip, resulting in permanent damage to the internal circuit. To address the issue of static surges in PROFIBUS fieldbus interfaces, circuit protection device manufacturer Dongwo Electronics has designed a protection scheme and recommended the use of appropriate TVS diodes.

From the design diagram of the static surge protection scheme for the fieldbus of Dongwo PROFIBUS, it can be seen that for the CM3141-02-03 fieldbus interface protection, the FAE engineer of Dongwo Electronics recommends using a TVS protection device DW05-4R-S. The working voltage of TVS diode DW05-4R-S is 5V, the clamping voltage is 20V, the low leakage current is 0.5uA, and it is unidirectional. According to IEC 61000-4-2, it can be used to provide ESD protection up to ± 30kV (air discharge)/± 30kV (contact discharge). According to IEC 61000-4-5, it can withstand a peak pulse current of 15A (8/20us) and a peak pulse power of 350W (8/20us), providing reliable ESD static and surge protection for interface chips. The maximum transmission rate of PROFIBUS fieldbus is 12Mbits/s, the junction capacitance of TVS diode DW05-4R-S is as low as 2pF, and CM3141-02-03 ensures the integrity of signal transmission; Adopting SOT-23-6L packaging and ultra small integrated device protection. In addition to choosing the TVS diode DW05-4R-S, Dongwo Electronic Technology also recommends using alternative materials such as DW05-4RT3-E, DW05-4RT5-E, DW05-4RVLC-E, and DW05-4RVLCH-E.
