The communication DTM supports any new protocol and has become a part of the hardware catalog of the PLC programming platform. This method allows for hiding the internal details of the protocol from the user interface. As long as the communication DTM supports it, users can add any available devices that have been installed in the system. The FDT framework works like an abstraction layer, allowing the system to seamlessly access the connected devices. 125720-01 Each device DTM can be accessed through the corresponding communication DTM.

When connecting to a remote I/O system or fieldbus, a gateway DTM must be installed below the communication DTM in the topology.
