The temperature control circuit composed of an integrated temperature controller LM88 is shown in Figure 4. In the design of 5136-RE2-PCI, remote temperature sensors VT0 and VT1 can be connected as PN junctions and placed in appropriate positions on remote controlled devices, such as computer CPU chips, power amplifier heat sinks, batteries, LCD displays, etc., to detect their surface temperature. When the temperature detected by VT0 exceeds the set threshold T-SP0, the digital signal output terminal O-SP0 of LM88 outputs a low level, causing the P-channel power field-effect transistor NDS356P to conduct, thereby turning on the cooling fan to cool the controlled device. Similarly, when the temperature detected by VT1 exceeds the threshold set value T-SP1, the digital signal output terminal O-SP1 of LM88 will output a low level, and another cooling fan will be turned on. When the abnormal situation causes the temperature of the controlled device to be too high, that is, when the surface temperature of the controlled device exceeds the threshold set value T-CRIT, the digital signal output terminal O-CRIT of LM88 will output a low level, and the power supply will be quickly turned off through the power shutdown circuit to protect the controlled device. To reduce noise interference in the input channel, a 2.2 nF capacitor is usually connected in parallel between D0+, D1+, and D -. VT0 and VT1 in the figure represent NPN low-power transistor 2N3904, R1~R3 are 10 k Ω pull-up resistors, and C is 0.1 μ F power decoupling capacitor.
In the design, dual remote temperature sensors with integrated temperature controller LM88 were used, and 5136-RE2-PCI was used to achieve temperature monitoring of two remote devices. And by utilizing the pre set comparison method and threshold temperature setting values before leaving the factory, this simple temperature control circuit has been designed. Therefore, the integrated temperature controller LM88 will be widely used in temperature monitoring due to its excellent performance such as simplicity, practicality, low power consumption, and low price.
