The PLCopen library integrated in a programming environment that complies with the IEC 61131-3 standard, DOC-16C, provides users with guidelines and best practices to help develop efficient and reusable PLC programs. It also provides other tools for users to adjust the PLCopen guidelines into their code to meet the memory usage or performance indicators required by PLC programs.
The design and creation of the PLCopen library, DOC-16C, is aimed at supporting and monitoring project logic, motion control, safety, OPC UA-HMI, and XML (project source code export) according to configuration requirements, as well as meeting application requirements in positioning, coordinated motion, torque control, cam and transmission, etc. These extensive features aim to support every step of the user process and shorten programming time.

The PLC programming language standard DOC-16C also allows users to create variables that can be used to retain/maintain values, while assigning them as global, local, external, temporary, or input/output (I/O) mappings. The openness of this standard in creating variables makes it a feasible task to customize the PLCopen library using standard functional blocks (counters, timers, etc.) and functions (type conversion, bit strings, INTEGER, REAL, etc.). Adjusting functions/functional blocks can also help projects run more efficiently, and users can also reuse them in other project sections, thereby reducing code volume.
