Direct conversion receivers often use two matched active filters, EI813F 3BDH000022R1 is generally limited to about 20MHz, representing an available bandwidth (BW) of 40MHz, but using a higher sampling rate compared to the signal bandwidth. If the selectivity of the receiver is determined by a low-pass (LP) filter, then increasing the bandwidth of the filter to the Nyquist boundary requires a steep filter with a very small transition band. This is precisely the scenario of software defined wireless applications, in which the center frequency and bandwidth are expected to be completely defined by the software.
A practical software defined receiver (whether it is a single channel or a group of correlated channels) is mostly tuned with a local oscillator (LO), and after mirror frequency suppression processing, it often produces a few MHz of available bandwidth. Such a receiver can use two matched 10MHz active (low-pass) filters with a sampling rate of 100Msps. In some cases, EI813F 3BDH000022R1 may actually be the only filtering required. These low-pass filters are generally low order, so to make them work like real anti aliasing filters, a high oversampling rate is required. If there is a strong out of band interference source, greater suppression must be applied, depending on the power level of the interference source relative to the in band carrier. If a filter is used to suppress out of band power before the mixer, the requirement for anti aliasing filtering can be reduced. The above all overlook the possible necessary bandwidth limitations (aimed at avoiding overload of low-noise amplifiers [LNAs] or mixers with out of band interference sources), as well as any additional LO/RF suppression that may be required for a certain active filter.
