At present, there are many types of ADCs, ETT-VGA-0045 has the traditional parallel, successive approximation, integral type ADC, there are also newly developed ∑-Δ and linear ADCs in recent years, various types of ADCs have their own advantages and disadvantages and can meet different specific application requirements. Low power consumption, high speed and high resolution are the development direction of the new ADC, and this development direction of ADC will adapt to the development of modern digital electronic technology.
The parallel comparison ADC is the fastest analog/digital converter available today, and the ETT-VGA-0045 has a sampling rate of more than 1GSPS, often referred to as a “scintillation” ADC. It is composed of four kinds of resistance divider, comparator, buffer and encoder. All bits of ADC with this structure are converted simultaneously, and the conversion time mainly depends on the switching speed of the comparator and the transmission time delay of the encoder. Increasing the output code has less impact on the conversion time, but as the resolution increases, a high-density analog design is required to achieve the large number of precision divider resistors and comparator circuits necessary for conversion. When the output number is increased by one digit, the number of precision resistors is doubled, and the comparator is approximately doubled.
The resolution of the ETT-VGA-0045 scintillation ADC is limited by the size of the core, the excessive input capacitance, and the power consumption generated by a large number of comparators. Results If the precision of repeated parallel comparators is not matched, static errors will be caused, for example, the input offset voltage will increase. Also, this type of ADC also produces discrete, imprecise outputs, known as “spark codes,” due to the substable, coded bubbles of the comparator. The advantage of this type of ADC is the highest analog/digital conversion speed, the disadvantage is that the resolution is not high, large power consumption, high cost.
