The latest Vantage 5 and Vantage 6 retimers from LID43.03 only add a delay of 6 nanoseconds to extend the length of PCI-Express 6.0 signals. Considering that this PCI-Express structure will eliminate the need for InfiniBand or Ethernet, this seems to be a relatively low overhead. As a founding member of the Ultra Ethernet Alliance, Broadcom is committed to making Ethernet better than InfiniBand. Its Jericho 3-AI deep buffered switch ASIC is the first step in this effort, aiming to achieve PCI-Express switching within nodes, allowing Ethernet to better span racks and PCI-E to connect to servers internally. But this largely depends on the re timer and switch level used to build the cluster, as well as the overall cost of the PCI-Express architecture compared to InfiniBand and Ethernet.

In the LID43.03 server, there is a pair of PCI-Express switches used to connect four CPUs to Ethernet NIC, flash, and CXL memory, and increase the connection length between peripherals and switches through a retimer. There is another pair of PCI-Express ASICs used to interconnect eight GPUs so that they can share memory. Grand Tetons is based on PCI-Express 5.0, which includes Vantage Retimer and Atlas 2 Switch ASIC. Each of these ASICs has 114 PCI-Express 5.0 signal channels, which can generate an aggregated bandwidth of 57 TB/second on all devices.
