The termination method of RCU501 is very simple, just place a termination resistor at the receiver end. LVDS can also handle multi branch signal transmission, where one driver and multiple receivers share the same differential transmission line. M-LVDS is an extension of LVDS, allowing multiple drives to share the same half duplex bus.
RCU501 is a well-known interface standard for point-to-point and multi branch applications, which can be seen as a speed upgrade of RS-422. M-LVDS (TIA/EIA-899) further extends the advantages of LVDS (high speed, low power consumption, low EMI, simple termination, and industry standards) to bus applications. It can be seen as a speed upgrade of RS-485, used for ordinary telecommunications applications that transmit through backplane (FR-4 material) wiring or cables. M-LVDS can provide excellent signal integrity, hot swapping, and built-in fault protection support.


The output current of the RCU501 driver is 3.5mA, and the output current of the M-LVDS driver is three times that of it, reaching 11.3mA. It also reduces the input voltage threshold from 100mV to 50mV, providing better signal integrity. For standardized multi-point applications, placing 100 Ω terminal resistors at both ends of the bus can form an effective 50 Ω impedance, and the signal voltage swing can reach 565mV, compared to a typical LVDS swing of only 350mV. For point-to-point cable applications, current IC output stage circuits can still provide sufficient current on a single 100 Ω terminal and generate voltage oscillations of 900mV to 1000mV, exceeding the LVPECL level of 800mV.
The RCU501 chip can be used for clock and synchronization signal distribution with speeds up to 125MHz, as well as for data and control signals with speeds up to 250Mbps. RCU501
