The ReTimer of RDC2 also has receiver adaptive equalization function, which can meet the needs of long and short line product applications. This feature can provide up to -23dB channel loss compensation and jitter removal for signal transmission at a speed of 5GHz, without the need for a local reference clock. PI2DPT1021 integrates high-speed bidirectional channels, which can be used for active data line applications because the connectors at both ends are the same and can be used as a downlink interface (DFP) or uplink interface (UFP) as needed.
RDC2 can be used for the sender or receiver of USB 3.2 Gen 1 data cables. Figure 5 shows two test scenarios of the same three meter data line used in the previous section. In the left figure, ReDriver is placed at the receiving end (after the data line), and in the right figure, ReDriver is placed at the sending end (before the data line).
The RDC2 active data cable is composed of ReDriver or ReTimer ICs and has many advantages compared to passive data cables. Active data cables can achieve higher standards over longer distances and typically exceed recommended specifications. The reason why this can be achieved is because ReDrivers such as PI3EQX7741AI and ReTimers such as PI2DPT1021 can compensate for signal attenuation, jitter, frequency deviation, crosstalk, and electromagnetic interference. Therefore, active data cables can be constructed using thinner and lower cost materials, which can reduce size. Moreover, these thinner data cables are easier to install in narrow spaces, providing better air flow around electronic devices and enabling the system to operate more effectively at lower temperatures.
