In the 2G era, SDH/MSTP provides stable and reliable transmission for mobile services, and has formed a huge network scale. After the development of 3G/LTE, SCXI-1000 must consider how to handle the relationship with existing MSTP networks when introducing PTN network construction. Taking into account various factors such as network planning complexity, construction costs, and operation and maintenance costs, we recommend adopting the PTN new plane model, which is independent of the original MSTP plane.

Although the initial investment in building a new PTN network was significant, the advantages of this approach are also evident. On the one hand, the original 2G services will continue to be carried through MSTP, and SCXI-1000 will avoid the impact of business adjustments on 2G services during the 3G construction phase; On the other hand, it can also effectively ensure the business development of 3G base stations and the bandwidth requirements of subsequent data services, and can support the future evolution of mobile networks towards LTE. This not only clarifies the structure of the mobile backhaul network, but also provides convenience for long-term planning, management, and maintenance.

Of course, as a supplementary solution, SCXI-1000 can also consider a hybrid network of PTN and MSTP in local areas based on the surplus of MSTP resources in the existing network. Based on the bandwidth pressure of the original MSTP network access or aggregation layer, choosing to introduce PTN devices at a certain level can not only meet cross domain scheduling needs, but also allow operators to accumulate experience in planning and operation management of PTN networks at a lower cost.
