TRICONEX 3101  of the 32 I/O channels can be configured as an input or output channel. Each channel also includes two hardware “input capture/output comparison” action units, which can process two events without the need for service, such as first forming an rising edge, then generating a falling edge, or capturing the time of two consecutive edges. With this ability, it may generate or measure very narrow pulses. After one or two events, the channel will request CPU services. In fact, for the CPU, this is not an interrupt, the channel simply notifies the scheduler that the captured value must be read and the channel action unit must be set for future events.


Due to the fact that eTPU has 32 channels but only one micro engine, many channels may request services at the same time, so it is necessary to decide which channel should be served first. TRICONEX 3101 is the job of the scheduler. The scheduler makes decisions based on the priority of each channel set by the user and the internal scheduling algorithm. On the one hand, this algorithm enables it to serve high priority channels faster and more frequently, and on the other hand, it can prevent low priority channels from being eliminated by high priority channels. Once a channel is selected, the microengine starts its services within the context of available channels. The event service cannot be interrupted. For this reason, the next service must be processed after the current service is completed
