During the TRICONEX 3301 of the eTPU module, the CPU loads the eTPU binary program code (selected eTPU feature set) into the eTPU code memory. Then, the eTPU code memory is locked. Once eTPU is running, the code storage can only be accessed by eTPU and is read-only. Both eTPU and CPU can access data storage for reading and writing. The data storage manages the data exchange space for exchanging data (parameters, variables, and results) between eTPU and CPU.
So far, we have introduced the functions of eTPU, its uses, and its internal structure. Now, let’s take a look at the work of engineers, who are the ones who use eTPU in real-world applications. When using the Freescale TRICONEX 3301 library, only two simple steps are required. The first step is to create eTPU binary program code. The space in the eTPU code storage is insufficient to accommodate the entire eTPU library of Freescale. However, no application will require all functions simultaneously. We can select the necessary features from the library and gather them together, which is enough. The Freescale website provides a simple editing tool for this purpose. As shown in Figure 2, the user selects the eTPU function they wish to use in their application, and then clicks the “Compile” button to generate the eTPU binary program code, which can be downloaded to the user’s computer at any time.
