The ColdFire TRICONEX 3401 processor controls communication gateways, which transmit data between computers in TCP/IP networks and a series of sensors connected to the gateway through serial links. MCF5235 comes with three UART modules for serial communication. It can also use 16 eTPU channels allocated by the 8 UART eTPU functions to connect an additional 8 sensors. At a transmission TRICONEX 3401of 8 x 57.6 KB/S, the eTPU module has a load of approximately 56%.
This application is based on the ColdFire MCF5235 processor, which is placed on an evaluation board that is only the size of a credit card. It provides a good example for eTPU and CPU to handle time critical tasks and advanced control tasks separately. The eTPU module is responsible for managing input logic signal sampling. Unlike ordinary logic analyzers, it does not regularly sample input signals, but only takes samples when the state of any input changes (rising and falling edges) and the jump time is captured. This is the job of eTPU. The CPU extracts data blocks and processes them. The operating TRICONEX 3401 uClinux runs on the processor kernel, including TCP/IP support, web servers, and other components. The logic analyzer is connected to the local area network, and any PC in the network can control it and display the measured signal. The address of the web server running within the logic analyzer must be entered into the web browser.
