VM600 200-510-041-021 200-510-111-021 MPC4 In the standard SPI configuration, the master device can enable the corresponding slave device by setting the slave selection line (SSN or SS) of the corresponding device to a logic low level, and writing data to or reading data from each slave device through a shared common data line. Attention should be paid not to enable multiple slave devices simultaneously, as the data returned to the master device will compete on the drivers between MISO lines, making it impossible to interpret the data. In some applications, it is not necessary to return data to the master device. In this case, if the master device wants to send the same data to multiple slave devices, it can address multiple slave devices simultaneously.

In multi device selection configuration, each slave device needs to have a unique slave device selection line (SS, SSN, or CSn) from the autonomous device. If the master device does not have enough I/O pins for the required number of slave devices, a decoder/demultiplexer (such as 74HC (T) 238 (3 to 8 lines) is used to achieve I/O expansion).

In this configuration, data is moved from one device to the next, and the final slave device can return the data to the master device (JTAG programming for FPGA is also commonly used in this way when programming multiple devices).
